Top 10 Things I Wish I had Taken on my Cruise

Cruising is one of my favorite ways to travel. Unpack once, go to sleep, and wake up in a new place every day. But sometimes I realize life on a cruise would be easier if I had brought “such and such.”

Hey, you live and learn, right?

Here are my top 10 things I wish I had taken along on my cruise. Some of these I did take, and some of them I plan on taking next time =)

Do yourself a favor and check them out!

1. Drink Carrier

So this beauty is a game changer, especially if you have small children…or any children…or spouses.

Anyway, you get the point. If you have more than one drink to carry, this carrier is wear it’s at. I can’t tell you how rough it was trying to carry everyone’s drinks without lids on our last cruise.

I’m getting this beauty for next time!

2. Reusable Straws

Disney Cruise Line now has a new policy – no plastic straws. Paper straws are available on request, but let’s face it, those don’t last long enough when  littles are  using them.

Enter reusable straws! Not only will it save your sanity, it will also save the table cloths.  They have quite an awesome selection on Amazon, here’s only a few that I found.

Along with that, DCL also does not offer lids which can be hard for those with little ones.
These would also be a great investment as well.

3. Collapsible laundry tote

I don’t know what we would have done without these beauties. They kept our room all nice and neat and worked great to carry laundry to the laundry room. No more arm fulls of dirty clothes for us!

I usually carry two or three of these with us because they fold up very small and fit great in our carry on suit cases.

If you have a larger than average crew, this is a great option also, but it does require a little more room when packing.

4. USB plugs

If you have a lot of electronics, these are a must. Now DCL doesn’t allow power strips, but they do allow USB plugs.

**DCL has started including clocks with usb ports on some of their ships, but we still like to be safe and carry our own =)

5. Card Holders

That’s a very good question.

I have a confession, I’m all about leggings. I wear leggings everywhere and because of that, I never have pockets. Lanyards and card holders are lifesavers for me.

I don’t have a preference in clip-ons or lanyards, but I know some people do. I found some great ones for you to check out:

Our daughter also likes to wear hers to the kids club, so the zip top ones work great for her.

6. Nauzene

Let’s face it, at some point it’s gonna happen. Someone, on board is going to get sea sick.

DCL, (and pretty much all cruise lines), offer unlimited Dramamine.  If you have littles, sometimes those pills don’t go down very well.

Guys, Nauzene Kids is amazing! It worked great for our little girl (4) and our niece. No more sea sickness for us!

7. Cord organizers

I don’t know about you, but loose cords drive me crazy! These babies work great!

We tend to bring a lot of electronics with us – Kindles, phones, power bank, etc.

I’m always losing something, but organizers save lives.

Take a look at these:

8. Packing cubes

Are you a folder and thrower or a roller and stuffer?

I’ve just discovered how much room you can save by rolling your garments to pack them. It changed my life.

Another way to stay organized is with packing cubes. Amazon has a great selection so I’m sure you’ll be able to find one that appeals to you.

I really like these =)

9. Document organizers

I have a problem, y’all. For the life of me, I can’t keep my travel documents organized in my bag. I’m constantly moving them to make sure they’re still there. Maybe it’s OCD.

Anywho, if you have a little OCD like me, then these document organizers are right for you.

10. Hanging toiletry bag

DCL has some of the best storage of any cruise line. There’s always plenty of room in the multiple closets, under the beds, and drawers.

DCL does seem to have a lot of storage space in the bathrooms, but I don’t think they considered how many toiletries women tend to carry.

Luckily, we had our hanging toiletry bags. It really helped keep our products out of each other’s way.

If you need a little more room to hang things, these hooks are a great option! I even saw these on doors, hanging decorations =)

Of course, these are just a few items that I wanted to share. What item did you wish you had taken on your cruise? Share yours in the comments.
